CheckBook App Reviews

So glad you fixed it!

I love this app!! I’ve been using it for about 3 years now and it has been so useful! I have tried other apps and so far this has been the one I liked the best because it is pretty basic but at the same time allows you to use different features if you want to. I highly recommend it, well worth it!!

just right

This is the Goldilocks of home finance maintenance. I love it.

Very cumbersome!

The process to input register data is really cumbersome. First you have to correct the date, then you need to pick the transaction type in a dropdown list. If you are not careful in inputting the amount you may end up with leftover zeros. A better choice is the paper register you get free with your checks.

Great Checkbook App

I mostly use this for keeping track of my checking and savings accounts. As someone who hates to balance a paper checkbook, I love that I can do it on my Mac and never have to keep a running balance since it does it all for me. I tend to enter a whole year in the of checking transactions with my estimated bills and paychecks. It helps me figure out if I’m going to be over or under budget. I also like that I can sync my accounts between my different Macs. That’s especially helpful when I travel because I mostly pay my bills, etc on my desktop but I can figure out my present finances on the road. The only glitch I’ve seen (and it has happened twice) is that I’ll run into a date (there’s no rhyme or reason as to why it happens on that day) where anything I enter after that date has the wrong balance as if the internal calculator has gone screwy. For example, if I write a check for $50, it actually adds it to my checking account instead of subtracting it. The two times this has happened I actually had to create another account om CHECKBOOK and start my checking/savings in that new account. As a note, I do not sync my accounts with my bank. I will continue to use CHECKBOOK for my daily checking and savings account finances.

Works great

Works great so far. Looking forward to being able to sync with iOS devices.

mostly good

I don’t use all the features on this app, but mainly to keep track like a checkbook, as to list credit/debits, and then check when they are posted. Gives me my “true” balance, which I appreciate. There was one time last year (2014), when all my entries disappeared. Rather disconcerting after all that data entry! Srsly, bummed me out. So I started over, but if it happens again, I will try something else. I also now do “frequent saves” to help with that. You used to be able to re-size the window, but now I can’t (top to bottom re-size, that is, keeps popping back big), so move it back and forth, which isn’t efficient and vaguely annoys me, particularly since I had used it when it didn’t do that, LOL. Other than those problems, I have continued to use this... for now.

Preliminary Review

I have been using checkbook for about 1 Month. Entry is easy. The reports could use a little revision, you should be able to click on a line of the summary and see what items were included in the total. Reconcilliation is different from other products I have used and am unable to rate it at this time. So far product provides what I expected based on the price. I spent 40 years doing accounting on a daily basis using very complex systems. I just needed a simple home system to track my expenses in retirement. I am having trouble with the Help section, however, I must admit, I also am using a new I Mac so I do have a learning curve to overcome.

Quick and Easy

Great product - Quick and easy to use. Does everything it claims to do.

Its good

Its good and simple. I wish that it had it would automatically adjust the balanace when reconciling an account. I’ve used Quicken for windows in the past. I guess it’s a learning curve.

Delivers as promised

I haven’t experienced anything unexpected. This SW delivers as promised.

Great app

I have been using this app for years. Its great. It keeps things really simple, which is what I like about it. I was in a panic yesterday when I could not open the app. I appreciated the message from the developer saying my data was safe. I followed the instructions for reinstalling the app and all my info returned. Thank goodness!

checkbook quits unexpectedly

As of today can not get checkbook to open. Have sent a report to Apple but have not gotten any responses.

Crashing On Open, Again.

The app is again crashing everytime you try to open it.

Works well with iCloud

Simple register that works well with iCloud. I had to contact support once (for an issue that I caused.) The resopnse and resolution were quick. I migrated data from Quicken when it seemed the future for intuit’s Quicken for OSX was undetermined.

CheckBook is Great

I switched to CheckBook when I got my Macbook Pro, having been a Quicken customer on my previous pc. I find it very user friendly, and a great way to keep track of my checkbook online. Their customer support is awesome (although not used very often, fortunately!)

Great!
